About the role
- Labeling and accurately documenting items for packing and relocating.
- Sort, organize, and store cargo in proper location.
- Assist Logistics Department in tracking incoming and outgoing cargo.
- Provide quotations for customers looking to import/export cargo
- Conduct Surveys for quotations relating to local moves, imports and exports
- A strong knowledge and skill set up of moving and packing of fine glassware and furniture as well as crating, loading/offloading of containers.
- Ability to arrange items or actions using logics or patterns.
- Pack and move heavy and fragile items as required from businesses and residences.
- Drive company vehicle for pickup and delivery of items to and from customers premises, Port Authority or any other locations required.
- Move cargo and materials across facilities
- Ensure workspace is free from debris and remove safety hazards from aisles
- Prepare documentation and inventory for audits.
- Any other duties assigned by management.
- Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be in good health and physical condition sufficient to lift 65-90 pounds,
- Stand a long period of time and negotiate loading ramps and stairs while carrying heavy objects.
- Must be able to read and write English language with proficiency sufficient to communicate with customers and co-workers.
- Must be able to read work tickets and take directions.
- Able to work holiday and weekends, as well as be called at short notice after hours.
- Ability to understand goods retrieval system.
- Able to operate a pallet jack and forklift.
- Thorough understanding of properly handling hazardous material.
- Excellent understanding of safety precautions and procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Must have a clean driving record
- Valid Group 4 license preferred
- Knowledge of Island roads and streets
- Packing and moving experience in a shipping and moving company preferred
- Must be strong bodied and able to lift more than 70lbs
- Must be willing to workdays, nights, weekends and some public holidays as needed
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in household goods
- Packing and moving experience in a shipping and moving company preferred
- Knowledge of industry packing methods
- Experience in fine glassware packing, crating and container loading
